Frequently Asked Questions | About the Planner

Is the Planner a desktop or web application?
The Planner is a hybrid application that makes use of both desktop and web components where it makes sense.
It’s primarily a desktop application, which provides a number of benefits such as fast schedule interactions due to lower latency, easier integrations with on-prem software or databases, and simple file-based plan management.
The Planner uses web-based/cloud components to handle account sign in, license checking, and automatic updates. In the future, additional optional cloud components may be added where it makes sense (for example, a way to enable easy read-only sharing of schedules).

How does auto-scheduling work?
The Planner uses specialized algorithms developed specifically for field development planning that aim to balance maximizing resource utilization, minimizing cycle times, and prioritizing high value assets.
Over time this automation logic will continue to improve based on feedback from real customer cases and additional goals (for example, capex and production).

How are plan versions managed?
Plan files are saved locally and can be moved, copied, and renamed from file explorer, just like any other files.

Are changes saved automatically?
The Planner automatically saves all changes.

Where’s the calculate button?
There isn’t one! Schedule, capital and production results are updated on-the-fly as inputs are changed.

How are new versions of the Planner released?
New versions of the Planner are pushed automatically. Simply reopen the application, and updates will run when a new version is available.

What’s the Planner codebase?
Most of the user interface is written in TypeScript, while the rest of the codebase is written in Rust.

How do licenses work?
We provide named user licenses at $14k per copy, or at a discounted rate for corporate deals.
We don’t want you to ever be denied access because your coworker went on vacation and forgot to log out, or because your company doesn’t have enough copies to support peak demand

Is there a product roadmap?
Absolutely. We have a long-term vision, a medium-term roadmap, and a prioritized backlog of specific development items.
